Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a modality of Traditional Chinese Medicine that originated over 2,000 years ago. It is based on the Chi energetic system that circulates through 14 major meridians throughout the body, linking the major organs. Imbalances and the stagnation of Chi cause diseases.

Acupuncturists administer very fine stainless steel needles into specified points along meridian lines through a careful assessment. It is believed that there are about 365 acupuncture points through the body.

In 1997, Acupuncture needles were reclassified from "experimental" to "medical” devices by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The National Institute of Health released a consensus statement in the same year endorsing Acupuncture for the treatment of a variety of conditions, such as post-operative pain, tennis elbow, and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Acupuncture is one of the best known of the alternative therapies. The FDA estimates that people in the United States spend more than $500 million annually on Acupuncture treatments. Many people have insurance coverage for Acupuncture.

Japanese-style Shiatsu& Anma Therapy

Shiatsu and Anma are the most popular bodywork therapies practiced even today in Japan. In western massage therapy, three major strokes have been introduced. According to classical Swedish massage, efflorage, petrissage and tappotoment are designed to improve the circulation of blood and lymph in the cardiovascular system.

In Eastern massage therapy, many kinds of strokes have also been introduced. Classic Anma massage applies soothing (friction), kneading (cutting cross-fiber & rotation), vibrating, shaking, tapping, snapping, and kyokude (bending or music hands), as well as
pressing, exercising and kyosei- stretching (correcting).

Anma massage was born in China where it is called Anmo or Tuina. Anma massage therapy significantlyprogressed during the Edo period (1603 – 1867) with contributions from the blind Japanese master of Acupuncture and Anma, Waichi Sugiyama. Shiatsu, or finger pressure therapy, originated in Japan during the Tai Sho period (1912 - 1925). In the 20th Century, Master Sorei Yanagiya and Dr. Katsusuke Serizawa presented scientific proof of its effectiveness. In the 20th Century, Master Namikoshi and Msunaga contributed to the establishment of Shaitsu therapy in Japan and throughout the world. It is just as effective as Acupuncture therapy for pain and irregular tissues and systems among sports injuries, occupational condition and stress related issues, but just without needles.
